Obituary - Chattanooga Times (February 18, 1988)
A graduate of Central High School and the University of Chattanooga, he played football and basketball at UC and was named to All-Dixie Conference in both sports his senior year. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and played service football at Camp Peary, Va.
A former member of Elks Club, Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, Atlanta Country Club and Chattanooga Quarterback Club, he was honored as a member of Old Timers Club of Chattanooga. A member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, he had served as past president of its Foster Class and was a former member of the executive board.
A son of the late John and Julia Kindred O'Brien, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ingle O'Brien, and two brothers, John and Robert O'Brien.
Survivors include two sons, Robert M. "Mike" O'Brien, Williamsport, Pa., and William P. "Pat" O'Brien Jr., Chattanooga; daughter, Carol O'Brien Duke, Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at First-Centenary United Methodist Church with Dr. Gordon Goodgame and the Rev. Vincent Hines officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
