Bill Ferguson, basketball coach at St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia from 1928 to 1953, died Saturday night after a brief illness.
He was 85 years old.
Mr. Ferguson, of nearby Sharon Hill, guided the Hawks to a record of 311-208 in his 25-year reign. During that time, his players included Jack Ramsay, now coach of the professional Portland Trail Blazers, and Jack Kraft, the former coach at Villanova and Rhode Island universities.
A 1920 graduate of Pennsylvania, Mr. Ferguson was named to the Helms Foundation College Basketball Hall of Fame in 1963 and was a charter member of the St. Joseph's Basketball Hall in 1973.
