Obituary - Los Angeles Times (July 19, 1994)
Former USC Tackle Tay Brown, Captain of '32 Team, Dies at 82
Raymond (Tay) Brown, captain of one of USC's greatest football teams, died of cancer Saturday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 82.
Brown, an All-American tackle on the Trojans' 1931 and '32 national championship teams, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1981.
He was captain of the '32 team that was undefeated and gave up only 13 points in 10 games.
Brown coached after graduating, joining the staff at Cincinnati as line coach and head basketball coach. He returned to his hometown of Compton in 1937 to coach Compton College's football team. His teams had a 140-33-9 record, including four Junior Rose Bowl appearances.
Services will be held at the Glendale Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Little Church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Instead of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or Ronald McDonald House.
