Paul Burnum Dies
TUSCALOOSA (AP) - One of the most successful high school football coaches in state history, Paul F. Burnum, died in a hospital Monday.
Burnum, 79, had suffered a stroke and heart attack last month.
During the 1920s, his Tuscaloosa High School teams went seven seasons without a defeat and his 1926 team won the unofficial national high school championship.
Burnum later joined the University of Alabama staff as an assistant and earned a reputation as an excellent recruiter and game scout. Among those he recruited for the Crimson Tide were Bear Bryant and Dixie Howell.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday.
