Ex-TCU Coach and Former Builder Dies
Johnny Swaim, 66, of Granbury, a semi-retired custom home builder and former head TCU basketball coach, died Thursday at a Fort Worth restaurant after complaining of a sharp pain in his chest.
Swaim, a member o the TCU Hall of Fame, played on Southwest Conference Championship basketball teams in 1951, '52 and '53. He began coaching basketball at TCU in 1967, winning two league titles before resigning shortly before the 1977 season with a 102-151 record.
After leaving TCU, Swaim moved to Granbury and built custom homes. He developed and built homes in the South Grove subdivision off the 377 bypass.
Swaim is survived by his wife Joan, son Mike of Fort Worth and daughter Susie Kurtz of Asher, Colo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at University Christian Church at TCU. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth before the service.
