Ex-MU Coach, Nagle, Dies
MILWAUKEE - Former Marquette basketball coach Jack Nagle died Wednesday of cancer at Columbia Hospital.
Nagle, 73, coached the Warriors for five seasons in the 1950s and compiled a record of 69-55. He was also the first person inducted into the Wisconsin High Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
In 1954-55, Nagle's Warriors went 24-3 with a 22-game winning streak and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Marquette won two games before dropping the final of the Eastern Regional to Iowa. Nagle was named National Jesuit Coach of the Year that year.
Marquette made an appearance in the National Invitational Tournament and then posted 10-15 and 11-11 records in Nagle's final three seasons.
Nagle then went on to coach at Whitefish Bay where he also served as an English teacher. He was a product of Shorewood High School and Marquette University.
