Obituary - Salt Lake City (UT) Tribune (December 27, 1980)
Ex-Ag Pilot, Baker, Dies
H. Cecil Baker, one of Utah's winningest high school coaches and later the head basketball coach at Utah State University for 11 seasons, died Friday in Logan hospital.
Baker, who reached mandatory retirement age of 65 when he stepped down at USU in February of 1961, posted a record of 157 wins and 142 losses in his 11 seasons at the helm of the Aggies.
He was called from the ranks of Utah high schools by the Aggie heirarchy in 1950 to replace Joe Whitesides.
Baker had coached six state champions at Granite High School, beginning with the 1929 state kingpins and continuing in 1933, 1934, 1936, 1938 and 1947.
Funeral services for Baker, who had lived the last several years in the Logan area, will be held Monday at noon at River Heights Ward in Logan.
