George F. Lee Centre Graduate Dies in N.Y.
George F. Lee, 86, Boyle County native and prominent New York banker and business leader, died at his home in Forest Hills, N.Y. Tuesday, after a long illness.
Mr. Lee was elected a Trustee of Centre College in 1932. He was an active member until 1959 and since that time had served as emeritus member making his tenure the longest on record. He was always active in alumni affairs, and made annual trips to Danville for many years to attend the Centre board meetings. He retired in 1952 as Vice President of the United State Trust Company where he went after graduating from Centre College in 1909.
In his business career he served as director of Yorkshire Insurance Company, director of Seaboard Fire and Marine Insurance Company, director of the Philadelphia Fund, and as President of Growth, Incorporated, a mutual fund. He also served as trustee of Jamaica Hospital, Jamaica, N.Y.
Mr. Lee was the son of the late Eugene and Clara Warren Lee, and was a brother of the late Mrs. Louie Bryant, of Danville. He was a first cousin of Mrs. Glenn McCaddam, and a cousin of Mrs. Faye Townes and Miss Louise Lee, all of Danville. Funeral services and burial will be held in Forest Hills, N.Y.
