C.T. Ballard, Associate Engineer with CG&E
Services for Clark T. Ballard, 51, 8806 Plainfield Rd. Rossmoyne, will be at Trinity United Church of Christ, 3850 E. Galbraith Rd., at 11:30 a.m. today, with burial in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Mr. Ballard, an associate engineer with the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., was an outstanding University of Cincinnati football end and basketball guard in the mid-30's. He saw his youngest son, Rick, play as a senior end with the Deer Park High School football team Friday night and was found dead in bed he next morning.
Two older sons are athletes: Terry is a reserve end at the University of Cincinnati, where he is a sophomore; Clark Jr. was graduated from West Point in June with the Eastern Athletic Conference Merit Medal as the senior excelling in scholarship and athletics. He broke the Army-Navy record in the hammer throw.
Also surviving Mr. Ballard are his wife, Betty Vanover Ballard; one sister, Mrs. Hiram Bolsinger, Cincinnati, and one brother, Claire A. Ballard, Flint, Mich.
Clark Ballard Sr. was a leading athlete at Norwood High School before going on to UC, where he captained the basketball team in 1935-36 and served as freshman coach in 1936-37. After joining the C G & E electric sales department after graduation in 1936 he continued to play pro ball for three years, then served as head UC basketball coach for the three season beginning in 1939, continuing his CG&E responsibilities as well. he refereed high school games until 1960.
In the war years Mr. Ballard took leave of absence from CG&E to serve with the FBI in Washington and elsewhere, 1942-45, then returned to CG&E employ. He was a Mason, member of the Shrine and Scottish Rite, and was active in the "C" Club and the UC Boosters. He was a past president of the Deer Park Parent-Teacher Association, the CG&E Wayfarers Club and the Hartwell Golf Club. He also had memberships in various athletic and engineering associations.
