Charles J. Jaskwhich
Charles J. "Chuck" Jaskwhich, 76, 7723 27th Ave., former Bradford High School football coach, died Tuesday (Jan. 12, 1988) at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center, Racine.
His Bradford teams compiled a 94-21-2 record from 1949 until 1963.
The son of the late Michael and Anna (Odorski) Jaskwhich, he was born March 4, 1911, in Kenosha. A graduate of Bradford High School, he starred in football, basketball and track, setting records which stood for many years. At Notre Dame he was first-string quarterback for Knute Rockne's ND team.
Jaskwhich received numerous honors during his coaching career, which included 27 years in the Kenosha School System. He retired in 1976 as athletic director. He was inducted as a charter member of the Wisconsin High School Football Coaching Hall of Fame in 1980. He had undefeated teams four times, and won five conference championships in 15 years.
He threw out the first ball on Kenosha Night at the Brewers at County Stadium in 1983.
On Jan. 2, 1935, in Notre Dame Chapel in South Bend, Ind., he married Mary L. Hughes. She died Nov. 6, 1977.
During World War II he served in the Navy from March 21, 1942, until Nov. 19, 1945 as a lieutenant, and had overseas duty. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Notre Dame Alumni Club.
Surviving are two sons, William, Greenville, S.C., and Thomas, Oconomowoc; a daughter, Mrs. Chester (Dorothy) Sobol, Kenosha; a brother, Edward J., Greenville; a sister, Ann H. Jaskwhich, Kenosha, and 10 grandchildren.
