Ex-Husker Coach is Dead at 56
Business Manager At Time of Death
A.J. Lewandowski, 56, business manager of the University of Nebraska's athletic department, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, his doctor reported.
Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church; burial in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Mr. Lewandowski lived at 1840 Kings Highway.
His doctor reported that Mr. Lewandowski, former NU football coach and athletic director, "had had a heart condition," for a number of years, but was not ill before his death.
Mr. Lewandowski was born May 30, 1905 in Chicago. He was graduated from Lindblom High School in Chicago in 1924. He came to the University of Nebraska in 1926 and was graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1930.
During his collegiate career at NU, he lettered in 4 sports - football, basketball, baseball and tennis.
Mr. Lewandowski was a member of the Elks Lodge and Phi Sigma Kappa.
Survivors include his wife, Fay; a daughter, Mrs. Kay Foreman of Lincoln; mother Mrs. Alvin Lewandowski and a sister, Mrs. Axel Bergstrom, both of Encinitas, Calif.; and one granddaughter.
